A meeting between His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia and His Beatitude Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and All Greece took place on Tuesday, 13 October, in a particularly cordial and fraternal atmosphere, at the Headquarters of the Holy Archdiocese of Athens. Archbishop Makarios was accompanied by Their Graces Bishop Athinagoras of Canberra and Bishop Evmenios of Chora, as well as Deacon Fr Timotheos.
During the meeting, the two Hierarchs had the opportunity to exchange thoughts on the present and future of the Orthodox Church and Hellenism in Australia, with particular reference to the challenges faced by younger generations, the preservation of the Greek language and tradition, and the strengthening of spiritual ties with Greece. His Beatitude also shared his concerns regarding the future of Hellenism and Greece in an ever-changing global environment and, once again, expressed his firm conviction that the grace of God will continue to bless the Greek Nation.
Among other matters, the Archbishop of Australia conveyed to His Beatitude the warm greetings of His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, as well as his love and affection for him. The meeting concluded with an exchange of commemorative gifts, as a testament to the mutual esteem and love that unite the two Hierarchs.
